The Japan Society of New York has selected me to participate in an exhibition, “New Bamboo” opening October 1, 2008.

I am planning to create a space called “kakoi.”　This is the concept of an enclosed space that came before the concept of tea house developed.

１０月１６日からNYボタニカルガーデンで開催される”菊ショウー”に竹の
インスタレーションを昨年に引き続き再度制作します。
竹林に漂う秋の霞を表現予定
制作期間は１０月２日より１１日まで

On October 16, the New York Botanical Garden will open its “Kiku” show and I will do a bamboo installation again as I did last year. I am trying to create a bamboo forest in an autumn mist.

I will be teaching Sogetsu School ikebana at the New York Botanical Garden as I have for the past several years.
Class dates: January 16, 23, 30
I try to teach the students to develop an enjoyable relationship with plant materials.

”天国の忘れもの展”に出品します。
花の絵画からイルージョンの世界を演出予定
In February 2009, I will be participating in an exhibition at the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow called “Things Heaven Forgot.” From paintings featuring flowers, I will create illusions of the world.

メルボルンいけ花インターナショナル５０周年記念が開催される
それと同時にナショナル・ギャラリービクトリアから招待を受け
同敷地内に竹インスタレーション”波”を制作予定
In May 2009, the Melbourne Australia chapter of Ikebana International will celebrate its 50th anniversary. At the same time The National Gallery of Victoria has invited me to do a bamboo installation “Wave” on the museum property.

１０月4日からジャパンソサエティーNYで開催される”New Bamboo:Contemporary Japanese Masters”展の作品制作に８月中旬から入ります。
タイトルは茶室と呼ばれる前の”囲い”を。　繊細な割り竹を編み込み約一ヶ月掛け２mX2mの曲がり変形面を約２０数枚制作予定。
その変形面を、風が吹き抜ける様に一枚一枚構築して行きます。（イマジネーションスケッチと模型写真）後日、制作風景、作品の写真はWorksの欄に掲載します。


In the middle of August, I will start working on my project for the Japan Society of New York exhibition “New Bamboo: Contemporary Japanese Masters.” The exhibition opens October 4.
The title is “Kakoi” Before there were tea-houses (cha shitsu), there were kakoi. I will carefully and sensitively split bamboo and knit these into wave-like formations. It will take about one month to make more than 20 pieces about two meters square. Then piece by piece I will create the installation to look as if the bamboo is blowing in the wind.( Here is my first sketch and a photo of the maquette that I made.)
Later I will put pictures of the construction and the completed work in “Works” on my website.



今年も１０月１６日からNYボタニカルガーデンで”菊ショー”が開催されます。”菊ショー”に再度竹インスタレーションを制作します。その為のラフスケッチと模型写真を掲載しました。
長さ８メーターの真竹を約３００本使用し竹林の秋霞を表現します。霞の下を歩行し五大と五感の合体によるあなたの空間をお楽しみください。制作期間は１０月２日から１０月１１日迄です。後日制作風景、作品写真はWorksの欄でご覧頂けます。

This year from October 16, the New York Botanical Garden will hold its Chrysanthemum Show and this year again I am doing a bamboo installation. You can see the original rough sketch and a photo of the maquette.
I will use 300 pieces of 8-meter-long madake bamboo. For this installation, I imagined
a bamboo forest in the autumn mist. You can walk under the mist and you will feel the five elements of nature and your five senses combining so you can enjoy this space. Later on I will post photos of the finished work in my “Works.”
