コロラド州デンバーにあるボタニック　ガーデンから招待を受け、竹のインスタレーションを制作します。
今回のタイトルは　“ Passage -- Culture Currents − “ とし東西の文化交流を水流に観たて、柔軟な竹で表現します。
また、入り口にはモニュメント“ Fundamental Energy II “ も、根源の生命を植物の形態に託します。
制作期間は４月１１日から５月７日までで、竹８００本を使用し、３０名のボランティアの皆さんと制作をともにします。
このプロジェクトの模型写真を記載しておきます。　また制作状況、完成写真も記載の予定です。

The Denver Botanic Garden in Colorado invited me to create a bamboo installation. This time the title is “Passage − Culture Currents.” Eastern and Western cultures are transformed into currents of water and I am expressing the mixing of these currents with flexible bamboo. Also I will be creating an installation at the entrance of the Garden “Fundamental Energy II.” I will transform our fundamental life energy into a plant form. The construction will last from April 11 to May 7, using 800 pieces of bamboo. I will be working with 30 volunteers. I have posted here a photo of the maquette of the project. I will be posting photos of the construction and also the finished installations. What my next “Passage” will be, and where, please keep anticipating!

ミント　ミュージアム　竹インスタレーション　２０１１.８

ノースキャロライナはシャーロットにあるミントミュージアムから７５周年記念として竹インスタレーションの依頼があり、７月２６日から８月１３日まで制作。　タイトルは“パサージュ　水路”とし、水路を通り抜ける人々が五大と五感の合体で今までにない新しい空間体験ができる作品とした。　猛暑に見舞われ、また嵐もあり、過酷な制作状況であったが、、、人間は自然をコントロール出来ない、受け入れるしかなかった。　少人数ではあったが２週間を共にした素晴らしいボロンティアー達には心から感謝、感激！！　また新たな人間関係がシャーロットで生まれた。
竹は５メーター、直径１０〜１２センチを７００本使用し、竹の持つ“剛と軟ー直線と曲線”で長さ３０メーターの水路を完成させた。　オープニングには、ミントミュージアム始まって以来の１５００人もの市民が集結、舞踏グループと私の作品のコラボもあり、盛り上がりのあるオープニングとなった。　多くの方々からの賛辞と感謝を受け、思い出に残るインスタレーションとなった。次のパサージュは、コロラド　、シアトルと続く予定。

Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC, USA Bamboo Installation, August 2011
The Mint Museum in Charlotte invited me to do a bamboo installation to mark the museum’s 75th anniversary. I worked on the installation from July 26th until August 13th. The title of the work is “Passages: Waterway.” I tried to create the installation so that people can walk through the Waterway experiencing the interaction of the five elements with their own five senses. The weather was extremely hot and a severe storm came. This made work on the installation very difficult, but human beings cannot control nature. I had to accept the weather as it was. Also there were not many volunteers but the ones who did come out worked together with me for two weeks together. They were wonderful volunteers. I was deeply touched and I have to say “Thank you” to them. I found more new friendships in Charlotte. I used about 700 pieces of bamboo that were five meters long and about 10-12 centimeters in diameter. Bamboo is both strong and soft, straight and curved, and with this I created a 30-meter long “Waterway.” At the opening day, nearly 1,500 people gathered―the largest one-day crowd the Museum had ever attracted. A group of Butoh dancers interacted with my work adding excitement to the opening ceremony. I received lots of congratulations and compliments from people who came. This work has become one of my truly memorable installations. The next possibilities for my installation work are now Denver, Colorado, and Seattle, Washington.
